Welcome To The USC SoAn Department
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the University of San Carlos administers two undergraduate degrees (AB Sociology and AB Anthropology) and the Graduate Anthropology Program (M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology). It was established in 1969 by Father Rudolf Rahmann, SVD, Ph.D., University Rector, and by Father Wilhelm Flieger, SVD, Ph.D. who served as Founding Chair.
Department Aims
1. To enable students to develop an appreciation for the major academic field they have chosen, [through an integrated, mutually supplementary instruction in both sociology and anthropology];

2. To develop the ability to think critically;

3. To develop the tools for understanding the social and cultural environment, as well as appreciate the socio-cultural processes and changes occurring in this environment;

4. To equip students with the skills necessary to carry out independent and collaborative researchers; and

5. To prepare students for specialized graduate courses.
